Sorry I wasn't able to get a post up last week, I had limited computer access for the first half of the week and then things go busy with school. So after that little mini-vacation I'm back!
The xx teams up with The Creators Project
I think be best way to describe "Chained" is by saying this is another classic xx song. The synth-R&B arrangement is to die for, the hook is pretty damn catchy, and at the end of the song you can't help but hit the repeat button. This is the second single off their Coexist album which was heavily influenced by the club music the band was exposed to while on tour. For all who are interested The xx will be in Toronto next Tuesday at Massey Hall.
*album highlights: Coexist*
Listen to 'Reunion'. This song has steel drums that will capture your soul. 'Missing' is pretty dramatic. Romy Madley Croft (guitarist) and Oliver Sim (bassist) got real intense with the lyrics on the album having drawn from personal experiences. 'Reconsider' rounds off the album pleasantly.
Bon Iver (finally) releases video for Beth/Rest
...and I'm a little disappointed by it. I've got a small obsession with Bon Iver's latest album in the sense that I listen to it to fall asleep sometimes, and Beth/Rest happens to be my favourite song. But the video stinks, and I say that in a loving "A+ for effort" kind of way.
As for the album as a whole (which you must give a listen) I'm a sucker for a sax, and this album has a whole bunch of it, but throw in horns and boy do we have a winner. 'Beth/Rest' finishes off the album as all great indie rock albums should, with a wicked horns section of course.
Tame Impala's Lonerism officially released
Yes this album was leaked back in early September but I'm paying homage to it's official release. The think I love about good psyche rock is that you can just listen to it in the background whenever. I first heard Tame Impala at Osheaga this summer and all their sound will forever remind me of that weekend, so I'm pretty well sold on it.
I've posted the video for 'Elephant' but for any wishing to check out the album because of it, I hate to break it to you but the rest of the album is not as bluesy. However definitely worth a listen even if singer Kevin Parker sounds a bit like John Lennon, because really, how can that be a bad thing?
