Indie Pop/Rock, Electronic, and a bunch of Acoustic

Cats And Watermelons by Gabriel Orozco

NEW MUSIC
Lana! Lana del Rey! Lanaaaaaaa!
Today Lana Del Rey gave the world her third ep Paradise. I haven't listened to the full album yet, just the sampler found here. So far my fav track of the album is either 'American', or 'Body Electric'. Any Lana fans will have already heard Bel Air, which to me sounds like what would be Lana's theme song if she was a Disney Princess. Watch the video because she's a beauty. She's stayed pretty consistent with her work thus far, but every night I pray that we don't have another Gaga on our hands.

Crystal Castles!
I've never really gotten into Crystal Castles but I'm loving Crystal Castles III which was released last week. The album starts off a little slower with 'Plague' and 'Kerosene' then 'Wrath of God' reminds me of Shiny Toy Gun's 'Don't Cry Out'. I like Affection, am not a huge fan of Insulin, but after that the album really picks up with 'Transgender'. Telepath is almost reminiscent of old favourite 'Pap Smear' and is by far my favourite song on the album.

Shiny Toy Guns
As I mentioned above, 'Wrath of God' reminded me of STG's 'Don't Cry Out' which prompted me to look into what the band has been up too. Coincidently, they have also recently released a new album after a little band shuffling and I kid you not, the album is called III. A couple weeks ago they put out a video for Fading Listening, I'm liking the song, loving the concept of the video and will be checking out the album as soon as I get a chance to.

Toro Y Moi and Hodgy Beats
Okay it's a remix of 'So Many Details' which came out last month but that does not change how excited I am for his new album. Mark your calendars folks, Anything In Return is set for released January 22nd of next year.

ALSO CHECK OUT
This week appears to be acoustic week, I'm totally okay with that.

Ellie Goudling without the mic
Anything Could Happen proves that any cover/remix of an Ellie song sounds better than the original, even when she does it! Seriously though, I love this stripped down version, time for an acoustic album please?

Father John Misty: The most soulful man of the year?
Part 1 and Part 2 Okay both these songs are pretty dark, but I can't get enough of them. Probably something to do with the line 'Rorschach sheets where we make love'.

Tuneage Tuesday III

ATTENTION, ATTENTION
"New Tunesday" will now be called "Tuneage Tuesday" and is back after a two week hiatus.

NEW MUSIC
Animal Collective b-side
Domino Records released 'Crimson' yesterday, a previously unreleased track available with 'Applesauce' from their latest album Centipede Hz. PI'm not incredibly excited by Crimson but I like Applesauce and I know there are some AnCo fans out there, so enjoy!

Music video from Gary Clark Jr
There's a great 60's vibe to the song and the video, and it's definitely something you can rock out to when warming up on a cool freezing fall day. Ain't Messin' Round features a gold sparkly guitar, a cherry red one, a sexy sax (who am I kidding, all saxophones are sexy), a trombone, and a chick with an afro, so really nothing can go wrong.

A new direction and a new video for Foals
'Inhaler' has more of an edge to it that previous stuff from the band, not sure how I feel about it but I really like their new video. The single is off their next album Holy Fire which is set for release February 13th 2013 so stay tuned for that.

ALSO CHECK OUT
Villagers
'The Waves' - A cool, trippy video and a good song to boot.
'Passing A Message' - Really well done lyric video, simple but effective.
Their new album {Awayland} is set to be released January 14th 2013.

Kool A.D.
'Dum Diary' is 10 minutes of gold, but honestly I hate his other work available. If you're looking for a laugh, watch his videos for Manny Pacquiao and La PiƱata.

New Tunesday II

Photo  by: Ben Tenn-Yuk
Heya kids,

Sorry I wasn't able to get a post up last week, I had limited computer access for the first half of the week and then things go busy with school. So after that little mini-vacation I'm back!

The xx teams up with The Creators Project
I think be best way to describe "Chained" is by saying this is another classic xx song. The synth-R&B arrangement is to die for, the hook is pretty damn catchy, and at the end of the song you can't help but hit the repeat button. This is the second single off their Coexist album which was heavily influenced by the club music the band was exposed to while on tour. For all who are interested The xx will be in Toronto next Tuesday at Massey Hall.

*album highlights: Coexist*
Listen to 'Reunion'. This song has steel drums that will capture your soul. 'Missing' is pretty dramatic. Romy Madley Croft (guitarist) and Oliver Sim (bassist) got real intense with the lyrics on the album having drawn from personal experiences. 'Reconsider' rounds off the album pleasantly.

Bon Iver (finally) releases video for Beth/Rest
...and I'm a little disappointed by it. I've got a small obsession with Bon Iver's latest album in the sense that I listen to it to fall asleep sometimes, and Beth/Rest happens to be my favourite song. But the video stinks, and I say that in a loving "A+ for effort" kind of way.

As for the album as a whole (which you must give a listen) I'm a sucker for a sax, and this album has a whole bunch of it, but throw in horns and boy do we have a winner. 'Beth/Rest' finishes off the album as all great indie rock albums should, with a wicked horns section of course.

Tame Impala's Lonerism officially released
Yes this album was leaked back in early September but I'm paying homage to it's official release. The think I love about good psyche rock is that you can just listen to it in the background whenever. I first heard Tame Impala at Osheaga this summer and all their sound will forever remind me of that weekend, so I'm pretty well sold on it.

I've posted the video for 'Elephant' but for any wishing to check out the album because of it, I hate to break it to you but the rest of the album is not as bluesy. However definitely worth a listen even if singer Kevin Parker sounds a bit like John Lennon, because really, how can that be a bad thing?

New Tunesday I

Happy Tuesday Friends!

Reasons why Tuesdays are awesome:

-  I have no class on Tuesdays
- Yoga class is Tuesdays

but most importantly...
NEW MUSIC TUESDAYS!

I'm going to try my hardest to update the blog with new music, and I'm thinking if I have a regular 'thing' I'll have more motivation to actually get it done. You know, goals and routine and stuff.

Flying Lotus releases 'Until the Quiet Comes'
I haven't yet had a chance to listen to it yet, but it without a doubt deserves a mention. A few weeks ago a short film was released, which featuring three of the tracks from the then upcoming album. Not sure how I feel about the film, I think it lacks direction and a clear message, but that may be the advertiser in me. FlyLo, as expected, rocks it. There's just something about his electrojazz/experimental vibe that I can't get enough of. I think he's coming down to Toronto sometime this month and I definitely would not mind attending.

Azealia Banks and Machinedrum team up for' Luxury'
Both artists have been on my watchlist lately so I was really excited to see that they've teamed up on a track for her upcoming album. Fresh out of Harlem, this 21 year old has already experienced some success in the UK but I have a feeling we're going to hear a lot more from her in the future. Other notable tracks that have already been released are 'Liquorice' and '1991', both with wicked cool videos. Her debut album '1991' is scheduled for a February 2013 release.

Official Video release from Grizzly Bear for 'Yet Again'
I love when musicians team up with artists to make really cool music videos, and this is a classic example. Your homework for the week is to watch the video and check out the album (Shields, out September 17th).

Welcome, Welcome.

Hullo there, welcome to my blog :)

My name is Tamyca, I'm a 19 yr old Advertising major at OCAD U who says "y'all" just a touch too often (but in all seriousness, great word).

This would be me.

I intend for this blog to be filled with good music, cool projects, and some yummy treats but that's gonna take a bit of time, so stay tuned for good things!

Let's start out right with a little tuneage for your listening pleasure. The video below is Bombay Bicycle Club's "Always Like This". If you haven't heard much of the band's other music I highly recommend checking them out, all three of their albums are mad decent and they're wicked good live. I like to toss on the three albums and listen to them through when I'm studying/working on assignments/not sleeping because design school is hard.
